Volunteering at Little Bit

We were fortunate enough to able to volunteer with the Little Bit Foundation as an offsite experience with Parkside. This enabled us to get out and give back to the local community. Little Bit’s unique support model encompasses and addresses the needs of the whole child, from personal care and confidence to physical health and mental well-being. Every Little Bit program is developed in response to a specific barrier of poverty on educational achievement, so each child is left feeling special :).

This visit allowed us to understand the inner workings of the foundation as a whole. We got to seprate books for upcoming bookfair that they host in the Greater St. Louis schools. These books were all donated by various sources, so it allows all the children to receive a book of their choice, with a stuffed animal. These book buddies enable kids to get more invested in reading or learning about things that spark their interests. This can further improve their behavior by boosting their confidence and their mental well-being. In addition to these book fairs, they offer pop up boutiques where the kids get to pick out clothes that they personally like. Many of these children otherwise wouldn’t have access to clothes and books, so having the opportunity to access these resources gives them a new outlook on life.
