Service Day - Rung for Women

Service Day - Rung for Women

The Interns and Mentors teamed up to give back to the St. Louis community by volunteering at Rung For Women! Rung For Women is a local nonprofit group that empowers women to grow and achieve sustained independence through educational, professional and economic resources. Some of Parkside’s own are already involved in the organization and were able to provide us with the connections to make this outing possible! Part of Rung’s mission is to provide women with what they need while working through their programs, and one of those things are health and sustainable meals that use herbs and vegetables from their garden. Rung has a full time chef on staff who cooks and helps teach members how to make these meals. They even take the extras from their garden and donate it to other local organizations.

Our afternoon at Rung started off with a guided tour of their facility where we got to learn all about Rung For Women and their amazing mission. After we completed the tour, we got to work in the gardens where they grow their own food. As we worked in the gardens, it was very motivating to know that all of the food we were helping to grow was going to great causes.

Along with the direct impact we were able to have on our community, volunteering was a wonderful way to educate ourselves on important matters, as well as a great opportunity to bond with our mentors and learn more about one another.
