The Mentor Aspect

The Mentor Aspect

One of the things that makes Parkside’s internship different from others is the mentor aspect of the program.  On our first day we had lunch with all of the mentors and got to hear a little about their background.  Throughout each rotation we were assigned a mentor to guide us through the process.  Starting a new job in general can be a little intimidating, especially for a young college student.  Having a mentor available for questions and to guide us through each project was extremely helpful and took away that initial stress.  The mentors helped to explain complex topics and reviewed our completed projects with us.  They were able to clarify any questions we had, in addition to giving tips on skills they have learned.  The mentors not only guided us through learning financial content, but also introduced us to other employees who they work closely with.  This allowed us to connect with others, as well as get to know more about their daily tasks. Having a mentor based internship creates structure and allows for an outstanding learning experience.
